The Piha Bowling Club is more than just a place to play bowls, it is the beating heart of the Piha community. Founded by locals, including the legendary Tiger O'Brien, who bulldozed the first green into shape by hand, the club quickly became a gathering place for surf-soaked evenings, live music, hearty laughter, and unforgettable yarns. Over the decades, it has hosted legendary socials, music nights, and community events, creating memories that still echo across the beach and the green.

Today, bowls has returned to centre stage. Our beautifully restored green welcomes everyone, from casual roll-ups and first-time bowlers to friendly competitions and seasoned players. No experience is required, just a willingness to have a go, enjoy the camaraderie, and embrace the spirit of the game.

Surrounding you are walls adorned with trophies, historic photographs, and the names of those who helped shape and sustain the club. Every visit is a reminder of the rich history, proud achievements, and strong community spirit that define Piha Bowling Club.

Nestled in the heart of the Piha Domain, the welcome is as warm as the summer sand and the community spirit as strong as ever. Whether you're here for bowls, great food, live music, community events, or simply to soak up the iconic beachside atmosphere, Piha Bowling Club offers an authentic and unforgettable Piha experience.

Keeping Piha Bowling Club in good shape takes ongoing care, maintenance and investment. From major restoration projects to improvements around the green and clubhouse, we’re continuing to invest in The Bowler for our members, visitors and the wider Piha community.

🌿 Green Surrounds Project

We’re raising $25,000 to replace the deteriorated green surrounds and create a safer, cleaner and more functional perimeter around our bowling green.

🛠️ Club Maintenance

Discover the work happening behind the scenes to maintain and improve our clubhouse, facilities and grounds.

🏠 Roof Restoration

A major restoration project completed in August/September 2026 following significant storm damage, helping protect our clubhouse for years to come.

Every project helps protect The Bowler and keep it at the heart of our community for generations to come.
