A CLUB BUILT BY A COMMUNITY

Rolling on the Real Green Since ’55

For over 70 years, Piha Bowling Club has brought together bowls, community, friendship and coastal hospitality in the heart of Piha.

Since 1955, the Piha Bowling Club, affectionately known by locals as "The Bowler", has been bringing people together where the black sand meets the green. Just a stone's throw from the beach, it's a place where salty feet, friendly faces and community spirit have always belonged.

Built by locals and powered by volunteers, the club has been at the heart of Piha life for more than 70 years. It's where neighbours catch up after a surf, visitors become regulars and the community comes together for bowls, live music, celebrations, fundraisers and good old-fashioned yarns.

Home to one of New Zealand's few remaining natural grass bowling greens, the club proudly blends tradition with the laid-back charm that makes Piha so special.

Whether you're rolling up for a game, grabbing a bite from Coastal Beach Diner, sharing a drink by the fire, or watching the sun dip into the Tasman, you'll find the same warm welcome that's been part of the club since day one.

Meet the Team Behind the Green

The Piha Bowling Club is proudly guided by a dedicated Executive Committee of volunteers who give their time and energy to keep the club thriving. Together, they help protect the Club’s heritage, support its members, and nurture the strong sense of community that defines Piha.

The committee oversees all aspects of club life, from looking after the green to supporting membership and strengthening connections within the wider community. Every effort is grounded in care for the Club and the people who bring it to life.

At the heart of everything are our core values:

Community | Connection | Love for the game of bowls

Angela Smith
Vice President

More than governance, the committee is about people. It’s about creating a welcoming space where everyone can enjoy the green, the beach, and the unmistakable Piha spirit.
