Looking After The Bowler for the Future

Keeping Piha Bowling Club in good shape takes ongoing work, care and investment.

As a club that has been part of the Piha community for more than 70 years, we have a responsibility to look after what we have today while making sure The Bowler remains a welcoming, safe and well-maintained place for future generations.

From major projects such as our 2026 roof restoration to regular maintenance around the clubhouse, kitchen, toilets, bar, bowling green and grounds, there is always work happening behind the scenes to keep the club operating at its best.

Investing in Our Club

Good maintenance is about more than keeping things looking tidy. Regular inspections, repairs and improvements help us:

  • Protect the club’s building and facilities
  • Address issues before they become larger and more expensive problems
  • Maintain a safe environment for members, visitors, volunteers and our community
  • Keep our facilities functional and fit for purpose
  • Improve the experience for bowlers, families, visitors and community groups
  • Protect the club’s long-term investment and assets
  • Ensure The Bowler can continue to serve Piha for many years to come

Maintenance & Improvement Projects

Our maintenance programme includes both planned work and improvements identified along the way.

Kitchen & Club Project

April & May 2025

During April and May 2025, Piha Bowling Club closed for six weeks for a major programme of kitchen and clubhouse maintenance.

The kitchen was fully renovated, addressing years of wear and tear and creating a safer, cleaner and more efficient space.

The project also included removing the temporary wall on the stage, opening up the clubroom and allowing more natural light in from the Seymour Room. Improvements were also made to the ladies’ and men’s locker rooms, the layout of the clubrooms, gardens and outdoor dining areas.

Roof Restoration Project

August & September 2026

Following significant storm damage in December 2025 and March 2026, the club completed a major roof restoration project during August and September 2026.

The project included asbestos roof removal, structural repairs, roof bracing, insulation, electrical pre-wiring and installation of a new Coloursteel roof.

Thank you to our contractors CMG and all our additional sub-contractors, Committee and Staff for completing this project on time.

Green Surrounds

November 2026 | Currently Seeking Funding

We’re currently seeking funding to support the upgrade of our green surrounds, helping improve the area around the green for our members and visitors.

A massive shout-out to Bowls Auckland for their generous funding contribution towards the project. Your support is hugely appreciated and helps us continue investing in the future of The Bowler.

A Club Worth Looking After

The Bowler belongs to the Piha community, and maintaining it is a shared investment in its future.

Every repair, improvement and maintenance project helps protect the club we have inherited and ensures it remains a place where people can come together for bowls, food, celebrations, events and simply catching up with friends.

We know there will always be something that needs fixing, improving or maintaining. That is part of looking after a community club.

Our goal is to keep investing where we can, plan ahead where possible and make responsible decisions that protect The Bowler for the next generation.
